What to do in Bristol at Christmas time in 2022 in collaboration with Visit Bristol ? // Que faire à Bristol durant la période de Noël en collaboration avec Visit Bristol ?

 

I was able to write this post and realise this adventures that you will be able to discover below thanks to my collaboration with the Bristol tourist office @visitbristol https://visitbristol.co.uk/things-to-do/christmas . I am delighted to be able to share these experiences with you for the festive season, if you are visiting my city or are out of ideas. There are so many things to do that I have selected a few...let's go!

Il y a tellement de choses à faire que j'en ai sélectionné quelques unes...allez c'est partit ! 

The Christmas Market

Every year in Bristol, one can discover the famous based Christmas market which is located right in the city center. I love all its lights and especially the 50 stalls as well as the large central bar which allows you to have a good time with family or friends. It is ideal for finding unique Christmas gifts and eating such typical dishes.

You have until December 23 to have a good time and do your shopping session at the same time.

Chaque année à Bristol, on peut découvrir le fameux marché de Noël basé qui est situé en plein centre-ville. J'adore toutes ses lumières et surtout les 50 stands ainsi que le grand bar central qui permet de passer un bon moment en famille ou entre amis. C'est l'idéal pour trouver des cadeaux de noël uniques et manger des plats aussi typiques. 

Vous avez jusqu'au 23 décembre pour passer du bon temps et faire votre session shopping en même temps. 

And don't hesitate to take a stroll through Bristol Shopping Quarter @bristolshopping where you can also see some nice Christmas decorations.

Et n'hésitez pas à vous balader à travers Bristol Shopping Quarter @bristolshopping où l'on peut aussi voir des chouettes décorations de noël.

Winter Spectacular it's on until Thursday 29th December at Quakers Friars.

And then all around the city you can discover so many beautiful Christmas lights. 

Et puis à travers la ville, vous pourrez découvrir toutes ces illuminations aussi belles les unes que les autres.

Bristol Cathedral

Located in the heart of the city center in College Green, it is difficult to miss it and especially to visit it  the architecture is just superb. For 900 years this cathedral has been the place for various events such as a sanctuary, a place of prayer but also a place where music has its place and even more so during the festive Christmas season.

From December several events will take place and besides I was able to have a taste of the Christmas carols. Believe in god or not it was  a special moment and beautiful to listen to.

Située en plein coeur du centre-ville à College Green, il est difficile de la manquer et surtout de la visiter tellement l'architecture est superbe. Depuis 900 ans, cette cathédrale est l'endroit propice a différents événements tels qu'un sanctuaire, un lieu de prière mais aussi un endroit où la musique à toute sa place et encore plus durant la season festive de Noël. 

A partir du mois décembre plusieurs événements vont avoir lieu et d'ailleurs, j'ai pu avoir un avant goût des chorales de noël. Croyant ou non, c'était très émouvant  et beau à écouter.

Propyard

I had the opportunity several times to go to Propyard to see the interactive exhibition of Van Gogh a few months ago and moreover that's how I was able to discover this place which was thought out and created to bring new opportunities and experiences to the city of Bristol.

Located right in the heart of the St Philips district the former MOD torpedo testing factory has been transformed into an exhibition and events space that changes with the seasons. The place is accessible to all and you can find a bar there but also street food.

And precisely for the winter holidays the space has been transformed into a Winterland which is open until January 31, 2023. This winter park is a festive and very soft place where you can meet up with family, friends to go ice skating but also to try the ice bumper cars. There is also music and plenty of food and drink.

I had a great time and I highly recommend it!!!

J'ai eu plusieurs fois l'occasion d'aller à Propyard pour voir l'expo interactive de Van Gogh il y a quelques mois et d'ailleurs c'est comme cela que j'ai pu découvrir cet endroit qui a été pensé et crée afin d'apporter de nouvelles opportunités et expériences à la ville de Bristol.  

Situé en plein coeur du quartier de St Philips, l'ancienne usine d'essais de torpilles MOD a été transformée en un espace d'exposition et d'événements qui change à chaque saison. L'endroit est accessible à tous et l'on peut y retrouver un bar mais aussi de la street food pour les plus gourmands. 

Et justement pour les fêtes, l'espace a été transformé en un "Winterland" qui est ouvert jusqu'au 31 janvier 2023. Ce parc d'hiver est un lieu festif et tout doux où l'on peut se retrouver en famille, entre amis à faire du patin à glace mais aussi des auto-tamponneuse de glace. Il y aussi de la musique et pleins de choses à boire et à manger. 

J'ai passé un moment bien sympa et je vous le recommande vivement !!!

Royal West of England Academy - RWA

169 Annual Open Exhibition until the 8th January 2023

Here, is the opportunity to discover an exhibition where we can find various pieces of art from emerging and established artists. As you know, I love art and I found it so interesting that an academy could highlight artists from different backgrounds. The diversity is so positive and discovering sculptures as well as drawings or paintings is magnificent.

A selection jury evaluated each entry and more than 500 works were selected for the final exhibition. This year's panel includes; President of Academicians, Fiona Robinson PRWA, Academicians RWA; Sarah Gillespie, Dorcas Casey, Nicholas Turner and Hamish Young, alongside Mark Golder (collector and benefactor, Golder Thompson Collection), Sue Hubbard (art critic, poet and novelist) and our guest artist, Matthew Burrows MBE (founder of the Artists' Support Gage).

I strongly urge you to spend time there and especially the museum café is really nice for eating and drinking a good hot coffee. You can find all the info on the link I share below. The shop is very cool especially if you need to find some Christmas presents.

Voici l'occasion de découvrir une expo où l'on trouve diverses pièces d'art provenant d'artistes émergents et établis. Comme vous le savez, j'adore l'art et j'ai trouvé intéressant qu'une académie puissent justement mettre en avant des artistes venant de milieux différents. La diversité est tellement enrichissant et découvrir aussi bien des sculptures, que des dessins ou bien des tableaux, c'est magnifique. 

Un jury de sélection a évalué chaque candidature et plus de 500 œuvres ont été retenues pour l'exposition finale. Le panel de cette année comprend; présidente des académiciens, Fiona Robinson PRWA, académiciens RWA ; Sarah Gillespie, Dorcas Casey, Nicholas Turner et Hamish Young, aux côtés de Mark Golder (collectionneur et bienfaiteur, Golder Thompson Collection), Sue Hubbard (critique d'art, poète et romancière) et notre artiste invité, Matthew Burrows MBE (fondateur de l'Artists' Support Gage).

Je vous incite vivement à passer du temps et surtout le café du musé est vraiment chouette pour se restaurer et boire un bon café bien chaud. The Bristol Old Vic 

The Nutcracker

If I tell you that this is the first time in 7 years that I have settled in Bristol, that I have taken the time to see a musical theater play in English. And what could be better than seeing a Christmas staple with "The Nutcracker". As a reminder, the origin of The Nutcracker is a classic Christmas story. And it's a two-act fairytale ballet centered around a family's Christmas party.

Having never seen the ballet but having done some research and also talking with my friends, I discovered a version that was a bit wacky and twisted, let's say at the Bristol Old Vic. Loving to laugh and enjoying English humor I enjoyed this version which made me have a very nice time! There's nothing to say but the decor was great and the acting of the actors who also play musical instruments make you have a good evening even if in the end you don't really understand.

For a good evening with friends or family where you want to laugh, I recommend this experience once again. All the info is just above ;-)

Si je vous dit que c'est la première fois depuis 7 ans que je suis installée à Bristol, que j'ai pris le temps de voir une pièce de théâtre musicale en anglais. Et quoi de mieux que de voir un incontournable de noël avec "The Nutcracker". Pour rappel, l'origine de Casse-Noisette est un classique du conte de Noël. Et c'est un ballet de conte de fées en deux actes centré sur la fête de Noël d'une famille.

N'ayant jamais vu le ballet mais ayant fait quelques recherches et aussi en discutant avec mes amis, j'ai découvert une version un peu loufoque et détournée on va dire au Bristol Old Vic. Aimant rigoler et appréciant l'humour anglais j'ai apprécié cette version qui m'a fait passer un moment très sympa ! Y'a pas à dire mais le décor était super et le jeux des comédiens qui jouent aussi des instruments de musique font que tu passes une bonne soirée même si à la fin tu comprends pas trop. 

Pour une bonne soirée entre amis ou bien en famille où vous avez envie de rire, je conseille une fois de plus cette expérience. Toutes les infos se trouvent juste au dessus ;-)

SS Great Britain

Victorian Christmas Weekends

Once again the SS Great Britain create a special experience for the Christmas holidays. I was delighted to go there when the sun was setting down because the atmosphere was really nice. Step back in time to meet a host of Victorian-era characters, including Old Santa Claus in his traditional green robe, and the shipyard which is transformed into a winter wonderland. It is absolutely necessary to go on board to the SS Great Britain to discover the festive life at sea as well as all the Christmas decorations.

You still have the weekend of December 10 and 11 to enjoy this adventure.

It's open until 6.30pm and the live music and snowfall continue into the evening as the shipyard is lit up after 4pm.

Une fois de plus le SS Great Britain met le paquet pour les fêtes de Noël. J'ai été ravie d'y aller lorsque le soleil se couchait car l'atmosphère était vraiment sympa. On remonte dans le temps pour rencontrer une foule de personnages de l'époque Victorienne, y compris le Vieux Père Noël dans sa robe verte traditionnelle, et le chantier naval qui est transformé en un paradis hivernal. Il faut absolument monter à bord du SS Great Britain pour découvrir la vie festive en mer ainsi que toutes les décorations de noël.

Il vous reste le we du 10 et 11 décembre pour profiter de cette aventure.

C'est ouvert jusqu'à 18h30 et le live musique ainsi que la neige se poursuivent dans la soirée alors que le chantier naval est éclairé à la lumière après 16 heures.
