It was during my Easter holidays that I was able to explore the surroundings of Bristol. And it was during a day trip between Bath and Bradford-On-Avon that I stumbled upon the Iford Manor. The weather was superb and it was an opportunity to stop and discover what I did not expect to see ... it's garden inspired by ancient Rome.
This garden has won several awards and is best known for it's Italian-inspired beauty. It was the architect and designer Harold Peto who lived in this manor from 1899 to 1933. He immediately liked the Georgian facade and especially the beautiful Frome River that can be seen on arrival. The garden, so unique and exceptional, is graded and listed 1. It is while traveling that Harold Peto was able to draw inspiration and create this garden which is just beautiful. The family who lives there now perpetuates the restoration of this unique place. And it reminds me a lot of a garden that I visited during my trip on Lake Como, in Italy.
I was happy to discover by chance with my Family this place. A small cloister is inside (which was under renovation) and it was so nice to walk around. What I liked was this tranquility and hearing far off the river flowing gently and the birds singing ! These are noises that comfort me. I was also very impressed by the beauty of this garden because Monsieur Peto has created such an elegant place !

- The garden is open from April 1 to September 30 (Wednesday to Sunday).
- Bank holiday from 11:00 to 16:00
- Sundays in October from 11:00 to 16:00
- Last entry at 15:30.

C'est durant mes vacances de Pâques que j'ai pu explorer un peu les alentours de Bristol. Et c'est au cours d'une journée balade entre Bath et Bradford-On-Avon que je suis tombée par hasard sur le Manoir D'Iford. Le temps était superbe et c'était l'occasion pour s'y arrêter et découvrir ce que je ne m'attendais pas à voir...son jardin d'inspiration Rome antique.
Ce jardin a gagné plusieurs prix et il est surtout connu pour sa beauté d'inspiration Italienne. C'est l'architecte et designer Harold Peto qui a vécu dans ce manoir de 1899 à 1933. Il a de suite aimé la façade Géorgienne et surtout la jolie rivière Frome que l'on peut voir en arrivant. Le jardin si unique et exceptionnel est gradé et listé au rang 1. C'est en voyageant qu'Harold Peto a pu s'inspirer et créer ce jardin qui est juste magnifique. La famille qui y vit maintenant, perpétue la restauration de ce lieu unique. Et il me rappelle beaucoup un jardin que j'avais visité lors de mon séjour sur le lac de Côme en Italie.
J'ai été heureuse de le découvrir en Famille et surtout d'y être tombée par hasard. Un petit cloître se trouve à l'intérieur (qui était en rénovation) et c'était trop agréable de s'y balader. Ce que j'ai aimé, c'est cette tranquillité et le fait d'entendre au loin la rivière couler doucement ! Ce sont des bruits qui m'apaisent et qui font du bien. J'ai aussi été très impressionnée par la beauté de ce jardin car Monsier Peto a su créer un endroit magnifique et élégant comme l'Italie.

Sachez aussi qu'un café se trouve juste à l'entrée du Manoir si vous avec une petite faim ou juste l'envie de boire un verre.
